Star Garland Santa from Country Folk by Brenda Walker
The Star Garland Santa / Father Christmas pattern from the Country Folk range makes a very cute, weighted Santa. Created by the talented Brenda Walker, Star Garland Santa stands 48cm (19″) tall. The full size pattern to make this seasonal doll also comes complete with patterns to make a charming coat, hat and garland. Brenda also completes her patterns with easy to follow instructions and says “I design and create decorations for the home inspired by the Northamptonshire countryside”!
Star Garland Santa can be sewn by hand or by machine (but probably easier by machine!).
Materials you will need:
Santa:
. Fat Quarter of tea dyed calico (or Tilda/Moda skin coloured fabric)
. Fat Eighth of black fabric for the lower body
. Fat Eighth of fabric for the arms (Brenda used checked fabric to give the appearance of gloves)
. 1/2m (1/2 yard) fabric for coat and hat
. 54cm x 7cm (21″ x 2.5″) Light Coloured fabric for the coat
. Skinny Quarter of check fabric for the coat and hat trim
. 450g (1lb) of plastic pellets to weight the body
. Polyfibre stuffing (250g will be plenty)
. PVA glue
. Black (01) permanent fabric pen
. Powder blush and white acrylic paint for face (optional)
Garland:
. 15cm (6″) square white felt
. 18cm (7″) square pale gold fabric – stars (hearts can be taken from the coat fabric)
. 1/4m (1/4 yard) square Fusible webbing
. 1/2m (1/2 yard) 5mm Green Cord
. 2 x 30cm (12″) Chenille Pipe Cleaners
. 15mm (5/8″) Gold Bell
. 3 x 10mm (3/8″) buttons for the coat
. 2 x 12mm (1/2″) buttons to attach the arms
. Ecru & Black Stranded embroidery thread
. Chunky Cream Wool – Beard
Equipment you will need:
. A sewing needle
. Fabric scissors
. Paper scissors
. Tailor’s chalk, fabric pen or a pencil
. An iron (for the fusible webbing)
